CYCLING AT RISLEY
Risley has, since 2012, been taking part in the Haringey Schools Cycling League - an inter-school league for promoting cycle racing between primary schools in the borough.
The league holds monthly cycle races during the school year, including grass-track racing, cyclo-cross, time trials and hill climbs. Children have also taken part in coaching sessions at specialist cycling facilities – Hog Hill and the 1948 Olympic velodrome in Herne Hill.

The Haringey Schools Cycling League is an inter-school league for promoting cycle racing between primary schools in the borough. They hold monthly race events during the school year, including grass-track racing, cyclocross, time trials and hill climbs.
Risley Wheelers won this inter-school competition in 2014 and again in 2015.
Cycle Training at Risley
Stefan Malinowski, our qualified cycle instructor, comes to Risley every Thursday and we teach some absolute beginners how to ride and then a Level 1 course in the playground for Year 4s and a level 2 course for Year 5s, which covers cycling safely on local roads.
Thanks to some grants from TfL, we have been able to buy 12 good-quality children’s bikes, which are a great help to teaching as many children as possible over the year.
Adult cyclists wanted
Could you accompany children on bike rides or help with cycle training? If so, please ask at the school office how you could help.
Risley Wheelers win the league!
Nearly 40 children from Risley have taken part this year in cycle races against other school teams in the Haringey Schools Cycling League. We have trained and raced at Herne Hill velodrome (a 1948 Olympic venue), at the Queen Elizabeth velopark and at Chestnuts and Finsbury parks.
After a series of 5 events, Risley Wheelers managed to emerge as convincing champions.
On Thursday 11 July, we were invited to North Harringay school for an awards ceremony, at which Risley children were given gold medals and a trophy - now in pride of place in our trophy cabinet.
Congratulations to all children who took part in HSCL races this year.
